Brow lift Incision Options- Which Incision is Best for Me?
Aug
The 2 major ways to raise your eyebrow position and make your forehead muscles weaker is to have a brow lift. This procedure can be done with an open approach, or an endoscopic approach. Both methods have their advantages and disadvantages.
An open brow lift is useful if you have more skin to pull, and some people say has a long lasting result. The open approach requires an incision behind your hair line, from one side of your head to the other side. The excess scalp skin and soft tissue are pulled tighter, and the eyebrow position is also pulled up. While this incision is open, the muscles of the forehead can be made thinner and less active, so that the muscles that cause your brow to have wrinkles or furrows are improved.
The disadvantage of this method is that the incision can't be hidden if you're bald or have a high hairline. Another disadvantage is that this incision is longer than the endoscopic approach, even if it's hidden behind the hairline.
The endoscopic brow lift uses 3-5 small incision behind the hairline. A camera on a tube, also known as an endoscope, is placed through different incisions, and surgical dissection is done with various instruments to raise the eyebrows, make the forehead muscles thinner, and anchor everything securely to ensure the longest lasting results.
The endoscopic approach allows smaller and less visible incisions, which is important in balding men, anyone with thinner hair, and anyone who simply does not want a longer incision. The endoscopic approach does not allow for skin removal, so if you have excess skin and soft tissue of the forehead, then you should probably choose the open approach.

Are You a Candidate For a Brow Lift?
Jul
A brow lift can do several things, including
- lift your eyebrow position
- make the forehead muscles less prominent
- make your forehead skin tighter
You're a candidate for a brow lift if your eyebrow is at or below the upper bony rim of your eye. In women, eyebrows are usually at or above the bony rim. As you age, the eyebrow may fall below this rim, giving you a tired or unintentionally angry look. In men, if the eyebrow is below the bony rim, then they may look tired or angry as well.
A brow lift can be done via an open, limited incision, or endoscopic approach. To move both eyebrows up, in a vertical direction, you will need either an incision all the way across the forehead, which is the open approach, or 3-5 tiny incisions behind your hairline, which is the endoscopic approach. The limited incision approach, which is a shorter incision, is usually done when the sides of the eyebrows need to be lifted. This small incision is also behind the hairline.
While doing a brow lift, you can also choose to have your forehead muscles surgically weakened. This is sort of the surgical way of achieving what Botox does. If you have your forehead muscles weakened, then your forehead lines or furrows will be weaker, and the forehead wrinkles will be less visible.
If you have any loose forehead skin, then a brow lift will tighten your forehead skin. This is more effective with an open approach or limited incision approach, as opposed to the endosopic approach.
A brow lift is often used in combination with an eyelid lift, because many patients have a low eyebrow position and loose skin of the upper eyelid. During your operation, the brow lift is done first, which lifts your eyebrow position and slightly tightens your upper eyelid skin. After that, the eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty, is done.
Some patient may have naturally low eyebrows, these patients may be happy with their overall appearance, or they may wish to undergo a brow lift at a relatively young age.
A brow lift is usually an out-patient procedure, and takes 1-2 weeks to recover, depending on your body's healing ability and how much surgery you undergo. Dr. Roy Kim can perform your procedure in a surgery center or a hospital in San Francisco, CA.
